I haven’t done one of these picture posts in a month. They are so much fun because they generate a lot of reader response. Just as a reminder, these are shots I have found on Pinterest, some with descriptive tags (often wrong) and some untagged. Ever since I signed up with Pinterest and set my interest as Elvis Presley, they constantly send me emails linking to new photos people have recently Pinnned. So, let’s take a look at some of them.
The tag on this one was very good: “Elvis and Dolores Hart at set of Loving You 1957. She was the first woman who kisses Elvis Presley in a film.”
This is also from Loving You. I love the caption on Pinterest: “Director Hal Kanter giving Dolores Hart and Elvis Presley instructions on how to do a scene.” Can’t you just imagine that Elvis is thinking, “Hey, man, move over. I’ll teach her how to kiss.”
Elvis with Dan Blocker form the TV show Bonanza. How many celebrities do you think Elvis met in his life?
Here’s another one. Lee Majors was called a “blond Elvis Presley” because of his resemblance to Elvis, but his hair doesn’t look too blond here.
I know some of you readers hate Photoshopped Elvis pictures, but you have to admit that Elvis makes a great-looking James Bond. (My name is Bond. Elvis Bond.)
Here’s one taken on the set of Speedway: Standing – Jerry Schilling, Marty Lacker, Larry Jost (sound department), Elvis, Don Sutton (Pitcher for the LA Dodgers), and Richard Davis. Kneeling – George Klein and Joe Esposito.
This shot of Elvis eating soup actually didn’t come from Pinterest. It is a screen grab I made from a video on YouTube. It was filmed in 1961 on Elvis trip back to Memphis after his discharge from the Army.
This is also from 1961. It was shot when Elvis visited Weeki Wachee Springs during free time while filming Follow That Dream in Florida. These pretty girls played mermaids during the underwater shows.
Does this look like Elvis shooting some kind of zap ray out the neck of his guitar? I made this one, too. In a behind-the-scenes video about the filming of That’s The Way It Is, they used interesting tricks to morph from one shot to the next. It took several attempts, but I finally got the screen grab to look like this.
There was no tag to indicate when and where this was snapped. Some readers have stated this is actually Anthony Perkins and not Elvis. Does anybody have definitive proof either way?
I love this image, and I sure hope it’s not Photoshopped.
I know the Pinterest tag on this is completely wrong. It says,” Elvis Presley cutting Johnny Cash’s hair. 1960.” First, Elvis is wearing the western outfit from Loving You, which filmed in 1957. Second, this is not Johnny Cash. I believe it is Elvis’ cousin Gene Smith. Here he is with Elvis on the set of Love Me Tender.
Looks like the same guy, right?
(Editor’s note: I had originally made a typing error and called him Billy Smith. Within eight hours of posting this, six alert readers made comments pointing out this error. Sorry)
Let’s close with some reader comments from the last time we did these pictures.
Reader Dolores R commented, “Elvis Pondering — the photo is a Nashville recording session in April 14, 1956.” I checked the photos in the book Elvis Presley – The Complete Recording Sessions for this date, and they all have Elvis wearing this shirt. You nailed it, Delores.
My friend Gerard Montz came up with a great tag for this photo:
“Tree Be Nice”

The Elvis and Lisa Marie picture is photoshoped, and it’s pretty badly done. You can clearly see that the lighting and resolution on the bodies and the background are different. The heads of Elvis and Lisa Marie are photoshoped onto some elses bodies.
Hi Arild. Thank you for your comment, but it has already been pointed out in numerous previous comments that thepicture is Photoshopped.
Phil
I think I have rare authentic pictures I found in my dads succession amongst other special stuff. Not really sure what I should do next with them ?
Hi Sylvie : I get a lot of requests like this, and I have two suggestions. Contact either:
Jerry Osborne, famous Elvis collector, historian, and author. His email address is JPO@olympus.net.
Bud Glass, at The King’s Ransom Museum. His email address is bglass@nettally.com
Thank you for reading ElvisBlog. I hope you enjoy it.

Are You Sure its BILLY Smith and not Bobby smith or the other Smith boy that used to travel with him in the early days They were not Travis Smiths boys .
thanks for the pics
Hi Marilyn:
Several readers already caught my typo about Gene Smith not Billy Smith. One even sent me a link to Gene’s book “Elvis’s Man Friday” that had the haircut picture on the back cover. So the name has been corrected in the article.
Phil Arnold
The fake “picture” purporting to show Elvis and Lisa is awful–yuch. “Photo” of Elvis on steps of Graceland is fake, too. Bleh. As is the sleeping one. Boo. You already know the James Bond one is fake. Ugh. I don’t think it is helpful to history to perpetuate this stuff. Please, please get back to your interesting writing, Phil, and lose the posting of obviously fake “photos”. I am so disappointed. Thanks for listening to my plaintive cry, “Bring back the clever and interesting writing of Phil Arnold”
Hi Diana:
A week before you, other reader claimed the Lisa and Elvis picture is photoshopped. So, I asked him to help me out and send something that would prove this. It just seems unlikely that someone could find separate photos of both people in those unusual positions. But if you can find the originals, I would love to post them.
That same reader pointed out the real name of the guy sitting in front of Graceland. I checked it out as accurate, so that picture has been deleted.
One other reader said the sleeping fellow was Anthony Perkins taken during the filming of “Psycho”. I asked her to send me anything that confirms that. If she comes through, that photo will be deleted.
I’ll try to keep from posting obviously fake photos, but some of these are tricky and it’s hard to tell.
Thanks for your comments.
Phil
I really loved it!

Hi Walter: Thanks again for your kind comments.
Phil
In the photo from 1957 of Elvis cutting hair, that is the late GENE SMITH….not Billy Smith.
Also, the photo of Lisa Marie & Elvis IS photo-shopped.
One more mistake: The guy sitting in front of Graceland is NOT Elvis….it’s the late David Scott who played the teen-age Elvis in “This Is Elvis” – sadly, he committed suicide in 1993.
And Dr. Elias Ghanem became more than a doctor. He was (I believe) president of the Nevada Boxing Commission after he stopped being a doctor. Elias passed away several years ago.
Hi Tony:
Several people caught my typo on GENE SMITH. I know better but wrote the wrong name anyway. The next day after the post, I corrected it.
One other reader stated the photo of Elvis and Lisa was photoshopped. So I asked her, as I did you in a private email, to help me out and send something that would prove this. It just seems unlikely that someone could find separate photos of both in those unusual positions. But if you can find the originals, I would love to post them.
I found other pictures of David Scott that look like the guy on the steps of Graceland. So, I deleted it.
Thanks for your comments,
Phil
Saw this online: “Loving You” Elvis’ cousin, Gene Smith: “I have to admit that I was disappointed to discover that the barber shop scene in ‘Loving you’, where Deke Rivers gives me a haircut, had been cut from the film, and as I sat there and watched the movie and listened to Dolores Hart as Susan Jessup sing ‘Detour’ I reflected on the detours, wrong-turns, dead ends and alternate routes on the roadmap of Elvis’ life..” a cut scene from the film (as mentioned in the book “Elvis’ Man Friday” by Gene Smith)
Hi Sandy:
A lot of folks pointed out that it is Gene, not Billy, Smith in that shot, and I have already corrected it. You were the only one to give me a link to the original photo on the back of Gene Smith’s book.
Thanks, Phil
Dear Phil,
I again want to let you know how much I appreciate your Elvis updates. They are so well thought out making your blog the most factual on the internet where Elvis is concerned. I call it the only blog where substance and integrity still prevails.
I do hope your wife is still coming along ok.
Regards
Billy F. Martin
Hi Billy: Thanks for yet another comment full of praise. You are too kind.
Phil
Don’t know if this is accurate but saw this online as a caption for the group picture with the two men who identities were in question. On the set of “Speedway” From left to right: Standing: Jerry Schilling, Marty Lacker, Larry Jost (sound depertment), Elvis, Don Sutton (Pitcher LA.) and Richard Davis. Sitting George Klein and Joe Esposito.
Hi Sandy: One other reader advised that Don Sutton was next to Elvis. So, I went back to the post and changed the tag under the picture.
Phil
I could be wrong but I believe that Elvis is cutting the hair of his cousin Gene Smith, not Billy. TCB Clementine
Hi Clementine:
Several people caught my typo on this. I know better but wrote the wrong name anyway. The next day after the post, I corrected it.
Phil
The next two pictures are not fake, both are from “Loving you” and you are ritght the boy is his cousin but no Billy, is Gene Smith.
Hi Delores:
Several people caught my typo on this. I know better but wrote the wrong name anyway. The next day after the post, I corrected it.
Phil
The picture on the bed is not Elvis, in fact is Anthony Perkins havin a nap on the set of Psyco.
Hi Delores:
You may be right. I went back and rewrote the tag below the picture and asked if anyone had definitive information on this. Can you help out with something?
Thanks, Phil
Hello Phil: That is Elvis’ cousin Gene Smith – not Billy Smith. Gene traveled with Elvis in the early years.
Hi Gerard:
Several people caught my typo on this. I know better but wrote the wrong name anyway. The next day after the post, I corrected it.
Phil
Thanks for the great pictures! I especially like the first one with Lisa Marie. Elvis is giving a haircut to his cousin Gene Smith. That is also Gene Smith in the following picture. He is Billy Smith’s older brother.
Hi Sharys: Several people caught my typo on this. I know better but wrote the wrong name anyway. The next day after the post, I corrected it.
