50th Anniversary Movie Pictorials: Flaming Star – 1960

Last October, we started a new series of pictorial essays celebrating the 50th anniversaries of Elvis’ movies. Number two in the series is Flaming star, which opened in December 1960. It was Elvis’s second western, and like Love Me Tender, his character died in it. Thankfully, that never happened again. Continue reading

Columnist Andrea Basora had organized her selections into four categories: “The Basics,” The Absurdists, “The Truly Weird,” and “The Music, Movies and Memorabilia.” Well, we’ve already covered weird and absurd, so let’s take a look at the more mainstream blogs she liked. Hello, My Name Is…

You are probably familiar with the way Johnny Cash opened his concerts. He would walk out on stage, go to the mike, and say, “Hello, my name is Johnny Cash.” Elvis Presley was obviously aware of this mannerism, because he opened several of his live shows a very similar way. That’s right. Elvis walked on stage and announced, “Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. I’m Johnny Cash.” Continue reading
