Elizabeth Taylor and Elvis — NOT!

When Elizabeth Taylor died at age 79, I knew there wasn't much history between her and Elvis, but I recalled there was one picture of the two stars in my files. It came off the internet somewhere. Continue reading

The Most Significant Month In Elvis' History

Back in late 2005, I was trying to think of something to write for the upcoming Birthday Tribute Issue of Elvis International magazine. I always try to submit something for each issue, and Darwin Lamm, the publisher, likes to do anniversary themes. So, I checked out what went on with Elvis fifty years earlier in January, 1956. Special ElvisBlog Content This Week

Elvis music was the soundtrack for my teen years. Because of that, I can really appreciate a story written by one of my writer friends about a thirteen-year-old boy in 1958 who loved Elvis. The author is Bob Strother, an extremely talented writer of short stories, who will soon release his second book, titled Scattered, Smothered, and Covered. Bob’s book contains the story I mentioned. It is titled “Baby, Don’t Say Don’t,” and you alert fans will recognize that as the familiar repeated line from Elvis’ hit song “Don’t.” Continue reading

ELVIS AND JOHNNY RIVERS

I love doing a little digging to find out what kind of connection Elvis had with other rock & rollers. In the case of Johnny Rivers, it goes all the way back to early 1955, before Elvis was a big star, and before Johnny Rivers was Johnny Rivers. At that time, he was Brooklyn-born John Ramistella, a twelve-year-old growing up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Continue reading
