Elvis and the 1992 Presidential Election

2012 is an election year, and already it has been the catalyst for one article connecting Elvis and politics.  Well, now I have found a source that inspires another.   It is the text of a 1993 San Francisco Examiner column … Continue reading

Baby, I Don't Care — Some Jerry Leiber Stories

If you read other Elvis websites, you already know about the death of songwriter Jerry Leiber. The other sites informed you that Leiber and his partner Mike Stoller wrote more than a dozen Elvis hits, including “Hound Dog,” “Jailhouse Rock” and “King Creole.” For ElvisBlog, I thought it would be more fun to tell you some Jerry Leiber stories. They all involve my favorite Elvis song, which happens to be written by Leiber & Stoller. Continue reading

Live Like Elvis — For $25,000 per Month

Recently, Jade Mills, a California realtor specializing in large estates, posted a new rental listing on her website. It was 1174 N. Hillcrest Rd, which you knowledgeable fans will recognize as one of the homes Elvis lived in while filming movies. Continue reading

Elvis Has Never Left the Movie Theater — Part 3

Once again, it is time to thank John Biefuss at GoMemphis.com for the research he does each year which makes possible this series of ElvisBlog articles. As the movie critic for the Memphis Commercial Appeal, he sees every movie that comes to town. And since that town is the home of Elvis Presley, he makes note of every Elvis connection in those movies. Continue reading

Critiquing the 12 Days of Christmas in July

If you have ever bought anything from www.ShopElvis.com, you probably get their frequent e-mail announcements of items they are promoting. If you are like me, you have received lots of these.

Loving You — Starring Scotty, DJ, and Bill (Plus Elvis, of Course)

I recently found something interesting on the website for a Rock and Roll memorabilia auction. It was a movie theater lobby card from Elvis’ 1957 film Loving You. Most Elvis movie cards and posters show pictures of him with one or more of his lovely female co-stars, but this one included Scotty Moore and DJ Fontana, his original guitarist and drummer. Continue reading

David Bowie and Elvis

Elvisblog strives to bring you articles you won’t find on any other Elvis websites or blogs. Certainly, that is accomplished with this topic discussing a connection between Elvis and David Bowie. That can’t be possible, you say. Continue reading

Postscripts to Earlier ElvisBlogs — 3

It’s starting to look like Postscripts will be an ElvisBlog feature every three months or so. New stuff keeps popping up that relates to old columns. Continue reading

Elvis Will Never Leave the Building

An old high school buddy of mine is also an Elvis fan. He lives in Indiana and has a background in history education. So, it was a pleasant surprise when he sent me a copy of the Spring 2008 issue of Traces, the publication of the Indiana Historical Society, with this cover story: “The King’s Last Concert – Elvis Presley in Indianapolis.” Continue reading
