Elvis' Fabulous Rings

The next time you look at concert photos of Elvis in his jumpsuits, check out his fingers. You will note that he usually has three or four rings on each hand. Elvis must have really loved rings, but he was also very generous with them and gave many away. Because of that, quite a few have ultimately ended up at rock and roll memorabilia auctions. Continue reading

Recently, Jade Mills, a California realtor specializing in large estates, posted a new rental listing on her website. It was 1174 N. Hillcrest Rd, which you knowledgeable fans will recognize as one of the homes Elvis lived in while filming movies. Continue reading

Elvis' High School Memorabilia

A few months ago, I wrote an article for Elvis International magazine titled “Elvis’ High School Yearbook.” A copy of this highly desired collectible was sold at an Elvis auction this summer, and the auction website showed pictures of every Elvis reference, picture, and signature in the yearbook. Special ElvisBlog Content This Week

Elvis music was the soundtrack for my teen years. Because of that, I can really appreciate a story written by one of my writer friends about a thirteen-year-old boy in 1958 who loved Elvis. The author is Bob Strother, an extremely talented writer of short stories, who will soon release his second book, titled Scattered, Smothered, and Covered. Bob’s book contains the story I mentioned. It is titled “Baby, Don’t Say Don’t,” and you alert fans will recognize that as the familiar repeated line from Elvis’ hit song “Don’t.” Continue reading

Two Very Rare, Weird, and Valuable Elvis Records

I started collecting record albums back in the 80s when CDs took over as the dominant music format. When people bought CD players and started building CD libraries, their old LPs and 45s languished in disinterest. Ultimately, many people sold their record collections at garage sales. For years, I was a regular Saturday morning scavenger, hitting as many garage sales as possible, looking for records. Continue reading

In May 1960, while he was in Los Angeles filming G.I. Blues, Elvis consented to an interview with New York Times reporter Murray Schumach. It had been two months since Elvis returned from the army, and a lot had changed in the two years he was gone. Continue reading

Mr. Potato Head Elvis — Yikes!

I told my wife that they were coming out with an Elvis Mr. Potato Head, and she replied, “Oh God, what’s next.” I think I have the answer to that question, but first let’s take a look at the latest in themed Elvis collectibles. Continue reading

Elvis in the Army — By the Numbers

It’s a natural for Elvis websites and fan magazines to do something to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Elvis’ discharge from the Army on March 5, 1960. But, what could you do that would be different. How about a list of significant (or at least, interesting) numbers relating to his two years in the Army? Continue reading

Sergeant Elvis A. Presley

We can assume Elvis was very proud of his promotions during his two years in the Army. He was promoted to Sergeant in February 1960, so let’s commemorate the 50th anniversary of this event with a look at his rise through the Army ranks. Continue reading
