Special ElvisBlog Content This Week

Elvis music was the soundtrack for my teen years. Because of that, I can really appreciate a story written by one of my writer friends about a thirteen-year-old boy in 1958 who loved Elvis. The author is Bob Strother, an extremely talented writer of short stories, who will soon release his second book, titled Scattered, Smothered, and Covered. Bob’s book contains the story I mentioned. It is titled “Baby, Don’t Say Don’t,” and you alert fans will recognize that as the familiar repeated line from Elvis’ hit song “Don’t.” Continue reading

Elvis Returns To Live Concerts

History has recorded that Elvis’ return to the stage on July 31, 1969 in Las Vegas was a huge, major success. It was his first live performance in eight years, and he was outstanding. We are quickly approaching the 40th anniversary of this epic concert, so I checked out several sources in my Elvis library to find the best description of the event. Continue reading

Eye-Liner Story

Elvis was synonymous with Las Vegas and performed to sold-out crowds at more than 700 shows there in the 70s. The explanation for this incongruity is that Newsweek was actually reviewing Elvis’ 1956 performances at the New Frontier Hotel Continue reading

JUNICHIRO KOIZUMI PRESENTS MY FAVORITE ELVIS SONGS

This past Friday, the news was full of stories and live feeds of President Bush and Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi visiting Graceland. Radio, TV, newspapers, and web news pages gave Elvis fans all the coverage we could possibly want, so what’s left to say on Elvisblog? What’s an angle that hasn’t been covered? Well. Here’s a good one. Nearly every news report mentioned that Prime Minister Koizumi released a CD back in 2001 of his 25 favorite Elvis songs. Continue reading

Elvis and the Grammy Awards

Most fans are aware Elvis won only three Grammy Awards, and that they were all for Gospel recordings. There’s a lot more to the story.
How could the King of Rock & Roll not win any Grammys for his rock & roll records? One big reason is that the Grammy awards did not start until 1958. Continue reading
