Knowledgeable Elvis fans are aware that he had a penchant for flashy, unconventional clothing. In the 50s, this inclination was frequently expressed in pink wardrobe items, especially shirts. On December 13, Heritage Auctions held another of their Music and Entertainment Auctions, and two pink Elvis shirts went to new owners for healthy prices. We have seen these shirts in iconic photos for years, and now the story behind them has been told in the auction catalog. more »

This past Wednesday, October 5, a new Elvis exhibit opened in England. It is titled “Elvis and Us,” and is stocked with a wonderful selection of items loaned by EPE. Some of the rare artifacts have never even been displayed at Graceland.

The next time you look at concert photos of Elvis in his jumpsuits, check out his fingers. You will note that he usually has three or four rings on each hand. Elvis must have really loved rings, but he was also very generous with them and gave many away. Because of that, quite a few have ultimately ended up at rock and roll memorabilia auctions. more »

Recently, I learned about an interesting item of Elvis memorabilia that is on display at the Berlin Hard Rock Café. It is a handwritten draft of a letter that Elvis wrote while he was in the Army serving in Germany. According to the Hard Rock website, this two-page letter was written in 1959, and they consider it one of their better pieces of Elvis memorabilia. more »

Back in the heyday of vinyl LP albums, the picture disc was a unique variation highly sought by some collectors. Instead of a plain old black disc, you get a record with a picture of the singer in vibrant color. more »

A few months ago, I wrote an article for Elvis International magazine titled “Elvis’ High School Yearbook.” A copy of this highly desired collectible was sold at an Elvis auction this summer, and the auction website showed pictures of every Elvis reference, picture, and signature in the yearbook.

An Elvis autograph or two are usually offered at the major Rock & Roll memorabilia auctions, but the recent Julien’s Legends # 5 auction contained Elvis signatures on a dozen different items. The prices varied from $384 to $11,520. Let’s see if we can figure out what made some items much more valuable than others.

Within the next month, three companies will hold auctions containing Elvis items. Heritage Auctioneers has their latest “Music and Entertainment” auction starting October 25. Julien’s has their “LEGENDS Pop Culture Artifacts” auction starting on October 8, and Guernsey’s has their “Iconic Objects and Documents” going on right now. more »

Every ten years or so, there is a big auction of Elvis memorabilia and collectibles. Back in 1999, I was fortunate to be in Las Vegas for a convention during the time that the Archives of Graceland auction had all the items on display at the MGM Grand Hotel. I spent three hours studying every item and reading all the information placards that accompanied them. more »
