Every August I enjoy going to GoMemphis.com and reading John Beifuss’ annual report on movies that contain something, anything, about Elvis in them. For example, it could be Elvis jumpsuits, or his iconic sunglasses, or anything else associated with him. It can be an Elvis song, a picture of him, or a character trying to sound like him. The next time you look at concert photos of Elvis in his jumpsuits, check out his fingers. You will note that he usually has three or four rings on each hand. Elvis must have really loved rings, but he was also very generous with them and gave many away. Because of that, quite a few have ultimately ended up at rock and roll memorabilia auctions. I always try to submit something for each issue, and Darwin Lamm, the publisher, likes to do anniversary themes. So, I checked out what went on with Elvis fifty years earlier in January, 1956. Elvis' Wedding Reception Redo
Lots of Elvis fans celebrate the anniversaries of events in Elvis’ life, including May 1, the day he and Priscilla married. However, not many folks this week celebrated the forty-third anniversary of Elvis’ second wedding reception on May 29, 1967. There is a precious metals store just a few miles from my home, so I dropped in to see what they had for sale. I quickly learned that silver comes in little 1 oz. bars and rounds produced by dozens of independent mints around the country. And they come with every conceivable image minted on them. Even Elvis!!
