Elvis Goodies from the Fuzzy Room – Part 5

It’s been two months since I last posted a group of Elvis collectibles for sale on here. I need to be more regular with this, because the time to move and down-size is steadily approaching. Thanks for helping me find new homes for the Elvis stuff I’ve collected for decades and displayed in my Fuzzy Room.

Please Note: The prices are for delivery to USA destinations only.
Postal rates to other countries are just prohibitive and mailing to
them is way more hassle. Sorry.

Graceland Book:

Graceland Coffee Table Book

This is a terrific book. It has 253 pages containing hundreds of photographs, most in color, and many are full-page or larger. Nearly all were taken just for this book by the Director of Photography at Memphis State University. They are sharp, clear, and beautiful. And many show you details in the various rooms of Graceland that we have not seen elsewhere.

The text accompanying the photographs was written by Chet Flippo, Senior Editor at Rolling Stone magazine. You will learn plenty of new stuff here, too. In addition to chapters on every room at Graceland (except Elvis’ bedroom), it covers his automobiles and planes, the ’68 Comeback Special, the Army days, Gold Lamé Suit, Aloha from Hawaii, Tupelo home, Elvis memorabilia, and much more.

Please disregard the shadow across the cover in my photograph. This book will look great on your coffee table. When it was originally published in 1993, the price was $60. I am willing to let it go for $18 delivered. It is in very good shape. Move fast to snap up this deal.

’68 Comeback Special Salt & Pepper Shakers:

(Editor’s Note: This has been sold.  The first set of Elvis salt and pepper shakers offered on here also went very fast.  I wish I had more.)

Elvis Presley Salt and Pepper Shaker Set in Box

Considering all the stuff Graceland is offering in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the TV special, I’m surprised they didn’t bring back this one.

Elvis Presley Salt and Pepper Shakers

The round shaker with The Elvis picture on it is the salt shaker. The Elvis in Red Lights is the pepper shaker.

Elvis Presley Salt and Pepper Shaker Set

And this is how they go together on your dining room table. The set can be yours for $12 delivered.

James Burton Autographed CD:

(Editor’s Note:  This item has been sold.)

James Burton - Corn Pickin' and Slick Slidin'

We all know about James Burton playing guitar for Ricky Nelson before joining Elvis in 1969. In between he recorded this album. Here is what one Amazon reviewer said about it:

“The jaw-dropping Telecaster work of James Burton and the ethereal pedal-steel sound of Ralph Mooney led Elvis Presley, Merle Haggard and countless others to recruit them for their sessions. They also cut a bunch of tunes together in the late ’60s; here are those killer cuts: Columbus Stockade Blues; The Texas Waltz; Moonshine; Your Cheatin’ Heart; Spanish Eyes , and more.”

James Burton autographed CD

I am offering the CD autographed by James Burton for $6 delivered.

Readers Digests with Elvis Articles:

(Editor’s Note: This item has been sold.)

Two Elvis stories in Readers Digest

The one on the left has this tease: The Plot Against the King. The title inside is: The Colonel and the King.

The Colonel and the King

This is an excerpt from the book The Colonel: The Extraordinary Story of Colonel Tom Parker and Elvis Presley by noted Elvis biographer Alana Nash. At 17 pages with 14 photographs, it is very interesting reading.

Where Elvis Lived

The other Reader’s Digest has the cover tease: Where Elvis Lives, but the six-page story covers much more than Graceland.

This is a two-fer deal, both for $5 delivered.

Elvis T-Shirts:

Elvis Jailhouse Rock T-shirt

(Editor’s Note: This item has been sold.  The other two T-shirts are still available.)

This is a spectacular T-Shirt. Most Elvis shirts just have a picture on the chest area of the front. This one has the background image from the Jailhouse Rock dance scene on every inch of the front and back. And centered on both sides is a large, very sharp photo of Elvis. It is simply the best two-sided Elvis T-shirt you will ever find. Size XL. $15 delivered. If you email me to say you want this, refer to it as the Jailhouse Rock T-shirt.

Nobody Knows I'm Elvis

This shirt will get you comments whenever you wear it. Size XL. Just $5 delivered.

Elvis Face T-shirt

Like the first shirt, this design is no longer available from the usual sources. The photo reproduction of Elvis’ face is so well done, and it really grabs people’s attention. A perfect T-shirt to wear at Elvis Week (or anywhere). Size XL. $10 delivered. Refer to this as the Elvis face shirt if you email to claim it.

Elvis Flipbook:

(Editor’s Note:  This item has been sold.)

Elvis Flipbook

In this age of digital images and videos, we can still enjoy a throw-back to much earlier times when flipbooks were a popular form of entertainment.

Elvis Flipbook OpenSorry for this pathetic photo. It was tough to take a picture showing the inside when you flip through it, but I can say it does a great job of showing Elvis’ stage moves while wearing the gold coat. The flipbook is in perfect shape. How about just $4 for it?

Small Stuff:

Elvis Magnet, Patch, and Matches

So, here we have a 3” long Greetings from Graceland refrigerator magnet done in the familiar postcard style. Also an 2-1/2 x 2-1/2” Elvis 60th Birthday patch. And a book of Elvis matches, with none of them removed. $5 for all three.

Pay Now with PayPal Button.

If you want an item, send me an email at philarnold@charter.net.  (Do not notify me of your interest on Comments.) As usual, first come, first served. I would prefer payment using PayPal, but checks will work, too. When I get your email, I will initiate billing on PayPal. You approve it and I send the item right out to you. With a check, it’ll take a little longer.

Thanks for your support.

Tag Lines in Elvis Movie Previews

Elvis at the Movies

Clever entrepreneurs keep coming up with unique ways to tap into the dedicated Elvis fan market. A nifty one comes from GoodTimes Home Video: a 90 minute collection of the trailers for all 33 Elvis feature films, titled “Elvis In The Movies.”

It’s kind of neat to watch the string of three-minute coming-attractions hyping each new Elvis movie, in sequence. Sometimes, they would start with an attention-catching phrase flashing across the screen, but more often, they began with a booming announcer voice-over extolling some element of the movie.

Along with snippets of film, these written or spoken teasers gave the fans an idea of what the movie was about. Here they are in chronological order.

Love Me Tender

His first great motion picture. Out of the great Southwest comes the sensational adventure of the notorious Reno brothers and the girl they fought over.

Loving You

The first big, modern musical built around the fiery personality of Elvis Presley. Follow him through the barnstorming days, and the one night stands, the big moment when girls discover him — and he discovers girls.

Jailhouse Rock

Elvis is back and so is his biggest movie hit… The astounding success story of this rebel with a voice that rocked the world.

King Creole

They’ve crowned a new king on the street where jazz was born. Now he crowns his meteoric rise to fame with a fiery burst of dramatic power.

G.I. Blues

The red, white and blue show of the year. It’s a three day pass at those frolicking frauleins, but the dancing darling who blocks every pass has all the guys in a spin — and guess who the boys are betting on to break through her defenses.

Flaming Star

The white man’s song was on his lips, but an Indian war-cry was in his heart, as he is torn between two loyalties, and he fought to save them both.

Wild In The Country

Elvis Presley sings songs of love to Hope Lang, songs of love to Tuesday Weld, songs of love to Millie Perkins. And wherever Elvis goes, excitement follows. Tense, torrid, tempestuous.

Blue Hawaii

Elvis as your personal guide to America’s exotic Eden, our Polynesian paradise. He hits the beach with the most luscious armful of delight on the island.

Follow That Dream

Follow that car. It’s headed toward this theater, loaded with the most happy-go-lucky group of wanderers who ever came down the pike chasing after the rainbow.

Kid Galahad

It’s a knockout. It’s a honey of a picture, filled with that Elvis kind of action, that Elvis kind of love.

Girls, Girls, Girls

Skipper Elvis serenades a port full of girls, girls, girls. The greatest of all Elvis Presley musicals with a whole album full of brand new songs.

It Happened at the Worlds Fair

Here, against the panorama of one ot the most glamorous and exciting events of recent times, is everything that made Elvis Presley one of the greatest entertainment stars in the world.

Fun in Aculpulco

It’s Elvis on fire with a Latin lilt, Latin love, Latin rhythm.

Kissin' Cousins

There’s gals in them thar hills, and look who’s driving them wild. The two greatest lovers in the Great Smokies.

Viva Las Vegas

The excitement when these two let themselves go on a wild and woolly whirl through Funtown, USA. A jumpin’ jackpot of melody.

Roustabout

Rambling, roving, restless, reckless. Elvis, getting the chicks all worked up, but cutting loose from any dolly that can tie him down.

Girl Happy

… when Elvis invades the land of the bikinis on those spring vacation revels. And thousands of college kids go, go, go.

Tickle Me

Yes, it’s Elvis as a swinging, singing cowboy. A rodeo ridin’, bronco bustin’ champ, whose job is wrangling fillies on a dude ranch.

Harum Scarum

Across the burning sands rides a dauntless stranger, meeting every challenge with clashing swords and bare-handed daring.

Frankie and Johnny

Here comes the King of the Mississippi… in a story that shows… that there ain’t no good in men.

Paradise Hawaiin Sryle

Running wild as a copter flyboy with more co-pilots than he can handle.

Spinout

It’s Elvis swinging. It’s Elvis singing. It’s Elvis racing. With his foot on the gas — and no breaks on the fun.

Easy Come, Easy Go

Flip-out with Elvis. Elvis making the scene, and he’s with some of the most luscious lovelies that ever filled out a bikini. Elvis rockin’ and sockin’ on the waterfront.

Double Trouble

Elvis is in trouble, big trouble. Elvis is on his way. He’s off to mod London and swinging Europe — and mystery.

Clambake

It’s Elvis cooking up a storm of entertainment. Elvis throws the wildest beach party since they invented the bikini and the beat.

Stay Away Joe

Now and again, the West produces a man who stands apart from the crowd. Noble as the valley, rugged as the rocks, a man of action who makes an unforgettable impact. Joe Lightcloud is such a man ???

Speedway

He’s a high flying stock car jockey with a room full of trophies. Elvis has a one-track mind and a winning streak that couldn’t be broken, until he found a gorgeous, groovy government agent in his slip-stream.

Live A Little, Love A Little

It’s a blow-up, it’s a blast. A love affair between a photographer, his pussycat, her playboy, and a pooch.

Charro

A different kind of a killer, a different kind of a man. On his neck he wore the brand of a killer, on his hip he wore vengeance.

The Trouble with Girls

It’s Elvis Presley. He’s the boss, boss-man of a groovy traveling tent show. It’s a little wicked and wild, weird and wacky — wallopin’ way-out entertainment.

Change of Habit

Elvis Presley, in the change of pace roll as a doctor doing his best to keep the lid on a red-hot ghetto.

I noticed a few things as I compiled this list.

Groovy was used a couple of times, and that is not a word we would think of today to describe Elvis. However, these movies are from the 60s, and groovy was used a lot in those times.

Elvis was described as fiery twice, including, “fiery burst of dramatic power” in King Creole. That’s a good line.

Bikini was used in three trailers, but it could easily have been in more.  They could have condensed down the tag for Clambake and just said:  Bikinis !!!

I’m a little surprised they used this line in Frankie and Johnny: “in a story that shows there ain’t no good in men.” What type audience were they trying to attract with that?

I am a big fan of alliterations, such as “tense, torrid, tempestuous” in Wild in the Country.

Here are some other good ones:

“wild and wooly whirl” in Viva Las Vegas.

“rambling, roving, restless, reckless” in Roustabout.

‘gorgeous, groovy government agent” in Speedway.

“a little wicked and wild, weird and wacky — wallopin’ way-out entertainment” from The Trouble with Girls.

And the Alliteration Grand Champion comes from Live A little, Love A Little:

“A photographer, his pussycat, her playboy, and a pooch…. All about passion, punches, pleasure, pandemonium.”

Wow. An eight-word alliteration. That’s pretty hard to do.

Here’s a challenge for you.  Come up with an Elvis alliteration and post it on Comments.   The first one I thought up was easy, early Elvis, and that’s terrible.  See if you can do better.

Some Elvis Pictures I’ve Never Seen Before – Part 8

Elvis on Motorcycle Phottoshopped on Warren Beaty Photo

Actually, we will start with two you have seen before. This appeared in Part 7 of the series back on August 11. Alert readers Delores, Jo, and Leon’a all quickly posted on Comments that it was Photoshopped. However, this week I heard from reader Paul, and he included a link to the original.

Warren Beaty - Shampoo 1975

This is Warren Beatty in a clip from the 1975 movie Shampoo. Thank you, Paul.

I like receiving your comments on Elvis photos, especially when you include a link to the originals before they are Photoshopped, so keep them coming.

Hands-on-Butt

This one posted on Part 1 of the series last January, and a week later I posted that three readers had informed me it was not Elvis, just an Elvis Tribute Artist. Nobody said how they knew, but it sounded reasonable, and I acknowledged their opinions.

Well, last week I found that picture again on Pinterest, as well as this:

Elvis Backside. Very, Very Nice !!!!! Rocker Man - Not Elvis

The woman who posted it added this comment: Very, Very Nice !!!!! But a guy named Rocker Man replied: Not Elvis. So, I don’t know what to believe.

That Pinterest board had other photos along the same lines, but this one really topped them all.

Collage of Elvis Presley Butt Pictures

People do some strange things with Elvis photos. They should be happy with the real photos of Elvis, like this one of him playing football:

Elvis and his friends playing a game of football with some very interested girls watching on

Let’s move on to another topic. Lately, there have been some new photos of Elvis eating.

Elvis Eating ribs

This is almost certainly Memphis-style barbequed ribs. Once during Elvis Week, a group of us went to Marlowe’s Restaurant, and I had their ribs. They were great. Because Marlowe’s is just a few blocks down the street from Graceland, it might be a good bet this is their ribs Elvis is munching on.

Elvis Presley eating lunch while filming his first movie, “Love Me Tender” (1956)

This is Elvis eating lunch in 1956 during a break in the filming his first movie, “Love Me Tender.”

Elvis Eating

I love Elvis’ eyes on this It looks like something is going on to his left, and he is wary about it.

Speaking of Marlowe’s Restaurant, look what’s on their website:

Jumpsuit Pajamas at Marlowe's Restaurant Website - $36

Ladies’ Elvis Jumpsuit Pajamas. Outstanding idea. $36. I’ve never seen them anywhere else. Let me know if you have.

Priscilla Presley's wedding crowns

Can you guess what this is? Here’s a big clue.

Elvis and Priscilla at Wedding, May 1, 1967 in Las Vegas

There it is on Priscilla’s head as she and Elvis celebrate their marriage on May 1, 1967,

Priscilla wearing crown at wedding reception redo

And she also wore it at their second wedding reception in Memphis four weeks later. In her book, Elvis and Me, Priscilla said “We threw a big reception at Graceland for all our friends and relatives.” The italics were provided by Priscilla, to indicate she and Elvis were not happy with way some of the folks in their circle were excluded from the wedding ceremony.

In 2010 I posted an article called Elvis’ Wedding Reception Redo about this event. Click here to take a look.

Gladys with Vernon .. wedding

This is a photo with a caption, Gladys and Vernon Presley on their wedding day. They married on June 17, 1933 when Gladys was 19 and Vernon was 17. Gladys looks pretty, doesn’t she?

Vernon and Gladys - Early 40s

This photo shows up on the internet occasionally with the tag Vernon and Gladys’ Wedding Picture, but that is disputed because Vernon does not look like a seventeen-year-old.

Elvis amd Priscilla behind desk

OK you Photoshop sleuths out there. Is this a phony? I think I’ve seen Priscilla in that net hat somewhere before. I wish it was real, because there are only a few photos out there of Elvis’ upstairs office off the bedroom.

Editor’s Note:  It took only a few hours before super sleuth reader Jo sent me two of the original pictures used to make the above Photoshopped one.

Priscilla Pic Used in Elvis Desk Photoshop

Elvis Desk Before Photoshop

The photoshop jockey even changed the photo on Elvis’ desk.

Elvis and Young Friends in Tupelo

When I found this photo and read the caption, I remembered two of the names were people who had written a book about Elvis that I really enjoyed.

Book We Remember Elvis

If you want to read about Elvis as a youngster, written by people who actually shared those times with him, you should get this book. It has stuff in it you haven’t read in any of the other biographies.

1955 photo ofElvis Presley with Fans

We will close with some iconic shots of Elvis and his fans. The first was shot in 1955. It’s pretty amazing the attraction Elvis had with the girls.

Fans Going Crazy at Elvis Concert

And he still had it twenty years later.

ElvisBlog Mini-Nuggets # 24

A Star Is Born 2018

I’m sure most of you readers are aware of all the media hype for the latest version of the movie A Star Is Born. This one pairs up Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga (or Stefani Germanotta, her real name, as listed on the above poster).

How many of you also know that Elvis was offered the male lead in the 1976 version?

A Star Is Born 1976

According to the definitive book ELVIS – His Life from A to Z, “Barbra Streisand wanted to costar with Elvis, in what would have been his finest screen role. But an agreement couldn’t be reached with Colonel Parker, who wanted one million dollars plus top billing for Elvis, rather than to settle for a percentage of the movie’s gross.”

So Kris Kristofferson got the role.

Probably not one of Col. Parker’s best moves.

Jerry Seinfeld in an Elvis Jumpsuit:

Rolling Stone Cover o Seinfeld in Elvis Jumpsuit

Do you save old magazines with good intentions to read them again? I’m bad that way, but lately I’m culling out anything I can use on ElvisBlog, and throwing the rest away. Here’s the cover of the September 22, 1994 issue of Rolling Stone magazine. It may be hard to tell in the small photo here, but the full-sized cover shows this is an expensive original design that probably weighs 40 pounds like some of Elvis’ jumpsuits did.  And his attempt at an Elvis lip curl is really lame

Jerry Seinfeld in Elvis Jumpsuit

This is a different pose that accompanies the lengthy article celebrating the end of Jerry Seinfeld’s twelve-year run on the TV show Seinfeld. There is no mention of the jumpsuit in the article, so it must be just to emphasize the subtitle on the magazine cover: The King of Prime Time Comedy.

There was one other picture of interest in this magazine.

Lisa Marie Presley and Michael Jackson

Supposedly, this was the first photograph of Lisa Marie and Michael Jackson after they were married in 1994.

Here are pictures of some other showbiz folks dressed up in Elvis jumpsuits.

Bill Murray in an Elvis Jumpsuit

Britney Spears 2007 in an Elvis Jumpsuit

Glen Campbell Wearing Elvis Jumpsuit - 1975

Andy Kaufman in Elvis Jumpsuit

Geraldo 1992 in Elvis Jumpsuit

Nathan Fillion (Rick Castle) in his Elvis Jumpsuit

The guy in the middle is Nathan Fillion In an episode of Castle.  Check out the twin Elvi’s with matching American Eagle jumpsuits and white scarfs on each side.  Does anybody know what the storyline was to have Fillion dressed up like this?

Who was Elvis’ Favorite Auto Mechanic?

Earlier this week I got an email from an ElvisBlog reader in Spokane who makes and collects guitars. After negotiating on the phone to buy a double-neck guitar, he went to pick it up.

Double -neck guitar

It turned out the owner also had many other guitars, including one he says he got from Elvis. It is an electric guitar with the same inlay as the acoustic guitar below.

Elvis Presley Guitar -

The man claims to have been Elvis’ go-to automobile mechanic for many years up until Elvis’ death.

This is the story the ElvisBlog reader relates about the mechanic, who we will call Al for now.

‘Elvis’ car broke down on his way to Tahoe. Al was a mechanic at a local car repair place. His boss asked if he could put a new motor in this Lincoln, and he agreed to work all night so Elvis could leave in the morning. Well, I guess he finished around 3 AM, and a guy came to pick up the car, but they started drinking beer and the guy was too drunk to drive.

“Meantime Elvis shows up, thanks the guy, asks Al’s boss if he could offer Al a job, to which Al said yes, and thus became his mechanic for years. Elvis would have his private plane pick him up and fly him to his various places like Bel Air, Memphis and I think he said Florida, where he had vehicles and Al would make sure they were tuned up and ready to go. He got paid $2400 a month which he says was really good money back in the sixties/seventies. He became really good friends with Priscilla and Lisa Marie, and he claimed he was like an uncle to Lisa.”

When the collector got to Al’s house for the double-neck, he found a very protective/reclusive type old man.

“He lets me in and I noticed he is packing a gun on his hip. He finally started to loosen up a bit after he realized I truly enjoy guitars and that’s when all the stories started coming forth. Really want to believe him but … I have some doubts.”

The story goes that Elvis gave Al the electric guitar with the fancy neck inlay. It was a movie prop although it really played. Elvis also gave him a gold album award, photos, and lots of other stuff.

The guitar collector says, “It all sounds really cool, but there is that slight twinkle of doubt that is bothering me.” He hopes there is someone out there who knows about a car mechanic/guitar collector with strong connections to Elvis, and has asked my help.

So, if anyone is familiar with who worked on Elvis’ vehicles from late 60s until Elvis’ death, please reply on Comments and add some credence to this story about Elvis’ favorite auto mechanic.
